About Aarudhra Dance School
Aarudhra Dance School is a Singapore-based institution dedicated to teaching Bharathanatyam and Indian Semi-Classical dance. Founded in 2015, we have trained over 200 students across every age group, starting from age 6 through to adult learners, with no prior dance experience required to begin.
Our Story
What began as a small weekend class has grown into a structured programme spanning three community venues across Singapore: Toa Payoh West Community Club, MacPherson Residents' Committee, and Eunos Community Club. Classes run every Saturday and Sunday, giving families across the island a venue within reach.
Our curriculum takes students from foundational Adavus (basic steps) through Alarippu, Jathiswaram, Varnam, Padam, and Tillana, the traditional repertoire of a full Bharathanatyam margam. Students who progress to an advanced level may be invited into our Performance Training and Arangetram Preparation programme, culminating in the Arangetram, the traditional solo debut that marks mastery of the art form.
Our Instructor
Classes are led by Viswanathan Ramalakshmi, a People's Association (PA) certified Bharathanatyam instructor. She holds a Certificate in Bharathanatyam (Intermediate) recognised by Dance India Asia-Pacific, and is a PA-certified trainer recognised by People's Association Singapore. She has performed at Chingay 2023 and continues to train students preparing for competitions, group performances, and their Arangetram.
Our Teaching Philosophy
We believe classical dance should be accessible without diluting its discipline. Every student, regardless of age or starting point, follows a structured curriculum that builds technique step by step, while our Semi-Classical programme gives more expressive, contemporary-leaning dancers a path that still draws on classical grammar.
